We’re a bunch of people with a shared interest in Japanese culture. We offer a wide variety of activities every day, from karaoke nights to calligraphy, or from Japanese board games to anime screenings. We’re located in Luna’s basement at the TU/e campus.
On our open day, this association offers all kinds of information and you can participate in two traditional Japanese games: Go, Shogi, Koi Koi. They also offer the opportunity to participate in a quiz and a small Origami workshop. Will you help us fold 1000 cranes on the open day?

Kyudo literally means the way of the bow and is a Japanese form of archery. In the past, the Japanese bow was used for hunting, war, court ceremonies, games and skill competitions.
Modern kyudo is practiced as a method for physical, moral and spiritual development.

A group of almost 18 participants will perform two thundering performances during the open day. At 11:20 and 13:40, traditional Japanese drums will sound throughout the building. Come and enjoy!
Taiko is the art of Japanese drumming. Taiko comes from Japan and literally means "fat drum". You play Taiko with your entire body, from your big toe to your little finger. Movement, rhythm, music and FUN, that's Taiko!
Both playing and listening to Taiko evokes many emotions and you are filled with a sense of serenity and positive energy. In short: Taiko is not just music or movement, but a way of life!

My name is Leandra Du Pau, I’m an illustrator living and working from Strijp-S, Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
In my illustrations I explore the beauty in moments when nothing happens and time feels slow; traveling, hiking in nature, reading a book under a blanket, or watching my rabbits take their nap in the sun in the middle of the day. When I travelled to Japan I visited Hakone, Kyoto, Tokyo, Nara and Osaka. Japanese culture fascinates me especially because of the way many Japanese traditions appreciate the value of slowing down.
I use soft tones and atmospheres to portray these moments and by sharing them I hope to share the idea that unproductive moments are worth our time. I create illustrations using digital pens and textures I made to resemble a medium I love: felt tip pens.
I enjoy working on assignments that value nature, animals and mental health as much as I do.
Pride in Japanese tea culture is the basis for this company. As a born and raised Japanese, he has been familiar with Japanese Matcha & Teas since he was little. Even after more than 40 years, Akira still drinks several cups of tea every day and his interest in tea is endless. He is happy to share his knowledge, story and experiences about tea and matcha during the open day.
Ikebana is an artistic way of arranging with natural materials. Hosen ikebana works according to the method and curriculum of the Sogetsu school in Tokyo. Modern design and modern use of materials are characteristic of Sogetsu ikebana.
In the Japanese way of flower arranging, the individual materials are more expressively and sometimes in a surprising form. Arrangements are usually made with few flowers, with branches of shrubs and trees forming an important part that support or define the space of the arrangement. Be surprised and amazed at our open day, by this beautiful form of flower arranging.
Using antique Japanese silk kimonos and traditional elements from other cultures, we recreate (RE-CREARE) these elements, transforming them into unique Western contemporary clothing, accessories and interior design items.
We do not only strive to recycle or reuse materials, but we also aim to preserve the cultural traditions and retain the memories of the creators or owners of the original pieces through passing them onto those who acquire one of our items.
Rosa will bring part of her unique offer to our open day. Let yourself be inspired and surprised. Want to see more of her work? Then she can be found in the Urban shop on Strijp S in Eindhoven
